Heat Shrink Fixture for TE Connectivity

Internship Project
Jun. 2023 - Aug. 2023
At TE Connectivity, I assisted the optic fiber pre-production lab team by designing tools and fixtures. One of my projects was to redesign a fixture to apply a heat shrink on cables. The original design failed to achieve a flat heat shrink form.

Original Fixture to be Redesigned

Ideal Heat Shrink Form

With the assistance of the additive manufacturing engineers, I selected the best material for high temperature ovens (NDA-protected), printing technologies, and mechanical designs for my fixture.
Using Creo, I ultimately designed a long fixture with holes and flattener pieces with pegs that would snap into the fixture. After I developed the design, my fixture consistently flattened the heat shrink to the ideal form.
