Plastic Injected Manta Ray Car

Manufacturing Project

Jan. 2023 - Mar. 2023

To learn more about industrial-level manufacturing, in a three-person team at Northwestern, we designed a manta ray car for injection molding. The assembly consisted of a main body (the manta ray), four claw-like parts, and four wheels. The claws would be press-fitted into the main body while holding the wheels, allowing the wheels to freely rotate. All were designed in Siemens NX.

Skills:

  • Designing for Manufacturing and Assembly

  • Siemens NX CAD and CAM

  • Injection Mold Design

  • Programming and Operating CNC Mills

  • Operating Plastic Injection Machines

  • Conducting Metrology Studies

Using our CAD parts, we designed the molds to be machined using Siemens NX and its CAM feature.
